With Holidays Like This, Who Needs Regular Mondays?

Monday is President’s Day. Unlike Thanksgiving, Christmas, or even Groundhog Day, I’m not quite clear on exactly what we are celebrating.

Once upon a time, we had two Mondays off around this time of the year, Lincoln’s Birthday and Washington’s Birthday. Now, instead of honoring two great men, we are honoring all presidents. Somehow the new taste seems to lack the flavorful spices. Washington and Lincoln were exceptional individuals. I could understand why we legalized some holidays in their names. But a holiday which pays homage to all presidents? Even William Henry Harrison, whom most people haven’t heard of?  Even Jimmy Carter, whom (unfortunately) most people have heard of?

I’m happy to say that I have a lot of work to get done this Monday. I will not be taking the day off.
