Bob continues his series on holiday movie reviews. Having shared his Top Ten favorites on the last show, he now moves on to movies that were more problematic.
Today starts with a MIXED review, one that Bob has somewhat of a love/hate relationship with, the 1961 Walt Disney version of Babes in Toyland.
TRIVIA: This was actually Walt Disney’s first live action musical produced several years before the classic, much better known, and much more successful, Mary Poppins!
ALSO:
-Bob reviews How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but not the original classic. This is director Ron Howard’s 2000 remake of the brilliant Dr. Seuss children’s book (1957) and delightful animated television special (1966) which Seuss himself had also been a big part of. He was no longer alive when the movie was made.
Ironically, while Bob LOVES the original and listed the annual CBS special on his Top Ten Favorite Holiday Movies and Videos, he finds this remake the absolute WORST Christmas movie of all time!
–Elf. While admitting that he is in the minority, Bob dissents from public opinion and explains why.
Afterwards, as a wrap up for this entire movie review series, Bob is joined by Nick Lane, his radio studio producer a few years ago when these reviews were first broadcast. Nick offers his own comments on some of Bob’s Top Ten such as A Christmas Story, Home Alone, and others. Nick also brings up several of his own favorites (Christmas Vacation, Mickey’s Christmas Carol ).
After hearing Bob’s critique of Christmas movies, check out Bob’s own Christmas story, The Dangerous Christmas Ornament, a fun, adventurous novel that kids have not been able to put down and yet it teaches them Judeo-Christian values!
