Remembering Our Christmas Traditions As Children

Repeat program

First broadcast: 12-5-21

Bob and his wife, Dana Siegel discuss their favorite Christmas traditions from childhood and then move on to discuss the nativity narratives from Matthew and Luke.

Topics include:

-Parents who have their children believe in Santa Claus, that moment when the kids grow older and the truth is revealed.

-The ongoing debate about whether parents should ever present Santa as anything other than make believe

-Dana’s inquiry about why Bob’s parents, while Jewish, still had him believe in Santa Claus prior to second grade

-What it was like in Bob’s household celebrating Hanukkah

-What it was like for Dana growing up in a small community where her mother was also her school teacher

-Mary’s visit to her relative Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, why God considered this visit to be of paramount importance to Mary

NOTE: While the program is a repeat of a show first broadcast in 2021 earlier in December, Bob enjoys “extending the Christmas season” thus, this repeat on New Year of 2022!

If, like Bob, you are also somebody who hates it when Christmas ends too quickly, Bob’s Christmas story, THE DANGEROUS CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT  is a book especially for you!

Try reading a few chapters!  It will pull you in right away.  Told in the first person by a twelve- year old sixth grade boy, it is enjoyed by all ages. Don’t let the title fool you; in the story, Christmas Day takes place only in Chapter One. After that, the story moves into late December and the first few weeks of January.

Meet Mike’s eccentric Aunt Loureen who celebrates Christmas five months out of the year, from November through March! In her words, “If we’re going to have winter, we may as well have Christmas along with it.”

A fun, adventurous novel that kids have not been able to put down and yet it teaches them Judeo-Christian values!
