Is It a Sin For Christians To See Certain Types of Films or TV Shows?

Hollywood Movies

Film critic Mark Bubien substitute hosts for Bob Siegel.

The topic is suggestive films, television programs, and music. Christians are often times in disagreement about whether or not it is a sin to glean certain offerings from the entertainment industry.

Mark begins by backing up from 21st Century Christian discussion to the 1st-Century, where Christians experienced similar conflict over different issues. While there are some practices that the Bible clearly condemns, there were grayer issues having to do with questionable types of food or specific observances. In many cases, Paul allowed people to simply make their own decisions. He also admonished his fellow believers to not  judge those who felt differently.

Using Paul’s words in Romans 14 as a template, Mark offers some advice for modern day followers of Jesus Christ beginning with a wise comment he remembers from a  Christian friend after a film they viewed together.

Films discussed:

-A Clockwork Orange

-Brokeback Mountain

Television Shows Discussed:

-Buffy the Vampire Slayer

-Breaking Bad

-Jessica Jones

Music Discussed:

-Guns N’ Roses

At the end of the program, Mark talks about how libraries are considering censoring the Bible itself (which is also quite graphic in places) and warns Christians to be careful about what they want to censor from others, inasmuch as it may come back to bite us.

As advertised on this week’s show:
