Bob continues a series that began on last week’s program.
The following Biblical people are corroborated from ancient historians who wrote on or around the same time as the New Testament:
-Pontius Pilate
-James, the brother of Jesus: Bob shows how this passage authenticates a more controversial passage where Josephus spends some time talking about the death and resurrection of Jesus Himself.
Old Testament authentication:
-Bob discusses the Lachish relief which has an account on stone of the Assyrian war against Judah talked about in the books of 2 Chronicles and Isaiah
Theology:
-Was John the Baptist a reincarnation of Elijah?
-Does the Bible support reincarnation?
-Was Jesus gay? John was called “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” This phrase has given rise to serious, flawed speculation. Bob disproves the notion that Jesus and John had a same-sex relationship by showing a difference between the Greek words eros and agape.
NOTE FROM BOB: Although ancient sources are sited on the program, I was first introduced to a theory accounting for Pilate’s changed behavior by the excellent book Chronological Aspects in the Life of Christ by H.W. Hoener.
