Predestination Debate: Part 2

Pastor Mark Brenon returns to continue the discussion from last week about predestination and other points of Reformed Theology (Calvinism).

A note from Bob Siegel:

The idea behind this “encore” discussion was for each of us to respond to points that we did not get  to last week, partly because so many thoughts were shooting back and forth that one sometimes forgets to go back and revisit a statement that came up while in the midst of discussing something else, and partly because the show simply goes by too fast to get everything in.

The agreed structure today was for each of us to  start with 10 minutes to lay out areas we didn’t comment on the previous week.  Since there was no moderator timing us, we ended up giving opening statements much longer than ten. I had told Mark ahead of time by phone off the air that if I went over, he should feel free to make his opening just as long. His didn’t end up being exactly as long as mine, but he had been given that option.

At one point, the cross talk created some confusion about who was asking a question and who was answering. While listening to the recording, I discovered the reason for the confusion. I had asked Mark to respond to a point I was making about Hebrews 6. While doing so, Mark also said he would like to see how I would answer something within the same subject bracket. He then continued with his answer. Since I had heard what was sounding like the formulation of a new question, I eventually cut in and asked Mark to make his question briefer. Mark responded by saying he was still answering MY question. He was correct of course, but I too had heard a question for me in the midst. Thus, both our intentions were sincere.

In any event, this kind of cross talk /confusion happens once in the while with talk radio. It comes with the territory. I mention it here only in the hopes that listeners might be a little less confused while taking in that one portion of the program.

I have enjoyed these discussions with Mark Brenon, especially the respectful spirit in which they were both held. Mark and I got along so well, we are planning to do more radio shows together, this time with both of us taking the same side of an issue. As Evangelical Christians, we  agree on far more than we disagree.

Thank you Mark, for your commitment to Jesus Christ and His cause!
