Get out the vote! That always sounds intelligent and responsible, doesn’t it? Well, frankly, I’m not so sure. Far too many people who know absolutely nothing about the issues vote anyway because they like the way a candidate smiles or they despise the way his opponent wears the wrong colored tie. Perhaps in some cases, they vote yes on all ballot measures because no would mean they don’t believe in hope and change.
President Obama held a conference call with student journalists this week, encouraging them to revive the “energy of 2008.” Yes indeed. I’ll just bet Obama covets the votes of our youth. After all, he knows that (with some exceptions) these are either college students with a microscopic comprehension about what’s truly going on in this country, (other than the fact that voting is their right and privilege) or they are privy to vast quantifies of disinformation from Marxist, America hating college professors.
If I were allowed a nation wide conference call, my plea would be different than our President’s. “Hey, gang, if you have not taken the time to really study or research these matters yourself, do us a favor: Just stay home on election day.”
