Don’t you love listening to President Obama lecture us on the Constitution? When he clarifies the rights of Muslims to build a mosque at Ground Zero, we are reminded that our Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. This sudden love affair with the Constitution is truly something to behold. Frankly, up to now, the man has never seemed particularly enamored with Founding Father legal codes. I find it strangely ironic that his sudden conversion is instigated by defending a mosque that will be headed by Imam Feisal Rauf, who refuses to call Hamas a terrorist organization and wants to see Sharia Law come to the United States. Sharia Law incidentally, could never be enacted unless our Constitution was first torn up. One might think Obama would investigate this man instead of hiring him to travel all over the world representing America in Muslim countries.
And how come Obama hasn’t said anything about the Greek Orthodox Church that was damaged after 9/11 and can’t get a city permit to rebuild? Don’t Christians have a right to construct buildings too? Do you want to tell me that we have always had zoning laws alongside our freedom of religion? OK, fine. So then, these same zoning laws that arbitrarily tell Christians where not to build, might be able to tell Muslims the same thing for a more concrete reason: It is simply unacceptable to place a mosque where thousands were killed in the name of Islam, especially when we know full well that Muslims all over the world will view this as a sign of military victory. Hamas has come out and said they are in favor of the mosque. Shouldn’t that endorsement end this discussion for any thinking person? Is an organization committed to the genocide of Jews happy about the mosque because it’s going to foster “greater tolerance between religions,” as Rauf disingenuously claims? There are all kinds of reasons for not allowing a Muslim building at Ground Zero. There are no reasons to not allow the Greek Orthodox Church to rebuild. But the constitutionality of the latter is not keeping Obama up at nights.
Neither does he seem concerned about the assault to freedom of religion when he signs a new Hate Crimes law that could make pastors responsible for violence against homosexuals if the perpetrator claims he heard a pastor preaching from Romans 1.
And what about freedom of speech? That’s in the Constitution too. Even if we ignored the Hate Crimes laws, Obama is pushing to have both Talk Radio and the Internet severely regulated, claiming that it does not carry enough “diversity.”
Meanwhile, the government is now allowed to seize companies that they consider “too big to fail” even when companies are not asking for bail outs. They can also close businesses down that do not have “a sufficient racial mix.” Call me a romantic, but such an assault on private enterprise does not strike me as having a whole lot of constitutionality.
Oh, I almost forgot: Making us purchase a product (health care) that we may not want, also violates the Constitution.
And Obama’s strong support for gun control contradicts the Second Amendment of the Constitution.
I could go on, but instead, let’s back up and remember that our president’s true feelings about the Constitution were actually admitted in so many words several years ago. While pushing for mandatory redistribution of wealth on Chicago Public Radio, October 26, 2008, candidate Obama lamented that the court didn’t “break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, at least as it has been interpreted.”
Oh well. That was then and this is now. As I said, Obama’s sudden conversion has given him a fresh new love for our Constitution. And it took the defense of people who hate our Constitution and want to overthrow it to bring about this great awakening. Bless their little hearts!
