The plethora of storms in California last week were quite an adventure indeed, but nothing was better than listening to the weather reports. Every day, we heard that the next storm would be the worst. Then, in the middle of the designated rainfall, I’d turn on my TV,only to see some lady with an ear to ear smile saying, “If you think this storm is bad, you haven’t seen anything yet! The next one is going to be the real doozy!
I’m reminded of the significant earthquakes we had in both Northern and Southern California a number of years ago. Buildings and freeways fell. People died. Houses were lost. In the midst of all the pain and panic, newscasters couldn’t wait to pop on television with the words, “Now we want to be clear: This is not. we repeat, not the BIG ONE that California has been waiting for.”
I guess that’s true. Either way, I’m convinced they don’t have to sound so darned cheerful when the forecast is bleak. Should there be some kind of bedside manner in the news as well as the hospital? Maybe so. Who wants to hear a doctor say, “Hey, good to see you! What’s happening? Say..You know what? You’ve got cancer, but no need for that to ruin your day.”
