California law no longer allows trans-fats in its restaurants. This is because the government thinks you are too stupid to decide for yourself what to eat or not eat.
I do not smoke but I was against anti-smoking legislation when it first began, because I never believed it would end there. All who know me remember the kinds of things I predicted and it is happening around us; not only government regulations but also lawsuits against candy companies, pastry companies and the entire meat industry. Human beings show little ability to pass laws in moderation. Instead, each law opens up another of Pandora’s many boxes.
Say what you want about our government these days, it sure is taking an active interest in your life. They are not only watching what you eat; they are watching what you drive because of Global Warming. They are also interested in what kind of holiday decorations you put up around your house at Christmas time, out of a concern for separation between church and state. This same concern forbids any mention of God in the classroom unless a teacher is explaining why God does NOT exist. That kind of discussion about God is always appropriate. They are interested in your viewpoints too. And to make sure you have the correct viewpoint on subjects like homosexuality, they will pass laws about Hate Speech. Oh, and they are interested in what you listen to. That’s why they want to regulate Talk Radio. They are also interested in how you educate your children, as demonstrated in their compassionate opposition to school vouchers, private schools and home schooling. Oops. I almost forgot the latest. Now you can also be penalized for changing your mind and calling off a wedding. (See another blog I wrote today.)
If you hear somebody walking behind you, don’t worry, it’s just Big Brother getting a step closer. He’s such a caring Big Brother. He loves you and he knows what’s best for you. Big Brother will tell you what to eat, what to drink, what to think, what to say, what to listen to, what to drive, what to believe in, who to marry, and how to educate your children.
Oh Big Brother! You make me wish I were an only child!
