The Grass Is Always Greener, Even When The Grass Is Sand

Human nature can be quite predictable, especially in the ordinary situations of life. Whenever I go to the beach with friends, there’s a little game we play. I make bets regarding how long it will take for a large group to relocate. The bigger the group, the better the odds that I will be correct. We’ve all seen this: A family or group of friends is slowly descending from the parking lot to a nice spot on the sand. The first to arrive start setting up umbrellas, chairs and towels. In time, another person from the group arrives (usually a woman).  She looks around, points to some other spot farther down and says, “Hey look! Why don’t we go set up over there instead?”  Of course, if they had set up “over there” originally, she’d now be pointing to this spot.

Times change like the sand on the sea shore. But human nature never changes. I guess that should make us feel more secure. Or maybe more annoyed.
