Given the choice between being sick, with all the accompanying discomfort, or losing my voice, I would choose the painful sickness hands down. Because of all the public speaking I do, not to mention a radio show and weekly Bible Studies, losing my voice is not very convenient. Also, just to be honest and show you my motives aren’t super spiritual here, I don’t even enjoy casually hanging out with people if our time together doesn’t include loud mouthed fun.
As it happens, I did get laryngitis a couple of days before Christmas. However, precisely because of the holidays and my desire to take some time off, visit my kids, etc. I had canceled all classes and arranged for a repeat broadcast on the radio. I should also say that unlike other times, my voice had not gone away completely. Yes, it sounded hoarse and raspy, not good enough for public speaking, but certainly adequate to chat over a meal or board game with family and friends.
I remember saying to myself; “This is one of those rare times when my voice does not matter. No radio show, no Sunday School, no Bible Study. Doesn’t matter!”
The next morning, I received an E Mail from one of KUSI News’ producers about an article written for San Diego Rostra regarding Sarah Palin. They asked if I could come in as soon as possible and do a live television interview on Good Morning San Diego.
Fortunately, they were willing to postpone until January 4th. God came through, as always, but not without first reminding me that He has sense of humor.
