I was at Disneyland yesterday. I never get tired of that place, especially at Christmas time. But I must confess to one reoccurring question these last few years. If Disney’s theme park is really a “Magic Kingdom”, why can’t they make California Adventure disappear? Well, it seems there may finally be a little magic after all. There is talk about scrapping Disney’s California Adventure and replacing it with something else.
For years they had talked about an additional theme park, just like Florida’s Epcot Center. I would have enjoyed our own Epcot Center. So what did they come up with instead? An amusement park based upon the notion of replicating California’s bright spots like coasts and boardwalks, Hollywood and vineyards. Am I the only one who thinks this was just about the stupidest idea ever to hover over a board meeting? If somebody already lives in California are they really going to get excited about a theme park modeled after California? And if they are visiting California from some other state or country, aren’t they here to tour the real California? Are they instead going to attend a theme park about California?
Honestly, somebody’s head must have rolled over this one. I think the riding horseman of Sleepy Hollow has a new companion.
This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.
